About Rachael

Welcome, I am glad you are here! If you like getting lost in nature or in something creative (or better yet, both), I think we will be friends.

Art has been in my life for as long as I can remember. As a kid I was always drawing or painting something. As I grew older, creating art would periodically fall by the wayside. Not because I lost love for it, but all of the responsibilities of adulthood, like getting a good job, doing well in school, doing all of the right things that adults should do - kept nudging art out of my life. That was until hard periods of life hit; during those times I would always come back to my sketchbook or a canvas to create. It has been by consistent form of therapy and I always manage to find my way back to it.

Being in nature is also therapeutic for me. Going on an afternoon hike with the dry, Colorado breeze blowing the amber and green-gold grasses across the meadow and Pikes Peak standing tall in the background is healing & inspiring.

Creating art that captures the beauty of the natural world is how I find balance with my high-pressure and completely digital day job. Painting and drawing reconnect me to something slower and truer about myself and life. I think we could all use a little more of that these days.

What I love most is capturing inspiring moments from every day, especially in nature, and both holding on to them and sharing them with others. This could be in replicating the feeling or moment of being in front of the changing leaves of a tree during an afternoon walk, or looking at the sun hitting the grasses on the plain on a hike, or watching the clouds moving over the fiery red rocks at Garden of the Gods.

A few years ago I moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado and it has been nothing short of magical. The landscape is constantly taking my breath away. From the numerous hiking trails that I find myself visiting on the weekends, to the mountains and Pikes Peak in the backdrop of all views, to the golden sun, and to the warm community I've found here - it is the inspiration behind many of my pieces. I also love to travel to new places, taking long hikes and being in a nature in a new place - another large source of inspiration for my work. Every artwork I create starts from a moment I had, of "Wow, isn't this something?"

Thank you for visiting. I hope you find something here that resonates with you.
